FID

Hi Guys,

I have seen some design in which cross shape is used instead of circular FID, is there any benefit or difference?
Strange is some design which use both, next to each other, dose it make sense to use both?

FID?

do you mean RFID?
maybe an image is possible of what you mean..

I mean fiducial for optical alignment,

Circular, vs. Cross:

ah now i get it.. i have never seen a cross though.. but I would rather go with a circular type because it is easier to get the centerpoint from. it might depend on the machines used in production.. but I can garantee a circular one is 100% functional for all machines.

I have seen crosses on PCBs, but I have never investigated how they are used - some may be used during PCB manufacturing, but I am not sure if they are also used during assembly.

maybe the crosses are used when the board has been tilted.. that could help indication.. I dont know...

I guess it may be related to placement precision, which is needed in some products.
Attached is sample of that cross in an actual board.
Also I do have a question about those metallic terminal on the board, do you know any part number for those terminals? How we can place them on board, soldering or press-fit?

there are types from wurth. they are called redcube..

they can come in pressfit and in solder form.

i know that MAC8 and PEM has some therminals for this,, but actually any solderable standoff can do this
