About Update from Libraries in Altium Designer
mulfycrowh , 08-08-2024, 08:19 PM
Hi everyone,I added one parameter for each component in the SCH library. Then Tools > Update from Libraries. Some of the components are not updated.Why?Thanks.
Noelia Scotti , 08-08-2024, 08:33 PM
Hi! If you want to update only parameters check the Update parameters option and click on Advanced for more options
mulfycrowh , 08-08-2024, 08:36 PM
Hi! Thanks for reply. For what I said applies to schematics.
mulfycrowh , 08-08-2024, 08:49 PM
I checked Update parameters but the issue is still there. If I replace the component with a new one, it is OK but it is time consuming.
Noelia Scotti , 08-08-2024, 08:55 PM
mmm perhaps a library path issue? Check this on Preferences.
Noelia Scotti , 08-08-2024, 09:02 PM
Did you move the libraries or change the filenames for example?
mulfycrowh , 08-08-2024, 09:03 PM
Not at all. It is OK for some components only. And when I update again, AD tells no change.
Noelia Scotti , 08-08-2024, 09:04 PM
Sorry, I cant help you
mulfycrowh , 08-08-2024, 09:05 PM
No problem Noelia!
QDrives , 08-08-2024, 09:14 PM
It sometimes seems that the 'link' to the library is broken. Are the values identical in the properties between a 'non changed part' and a newly placed one?I have a vage memory I had this too and do not recall a solution.Best also validate the project.
Noelia Scotti , 08-08-2024, 09:21 PM
Did you try the Tools->Item Manager in order to try different methods for update?
mulfycrowh , 08-08-2024, 09:36 PM
I am going to check that. Thanks
mulfycrowh , 08-10-2024, 11:03 PM
It is really A BIG ISSUE to have to re-add manually the components that were not updated after Update from Libraries. Is there a solution? 😡
QDrives , 08-11-2024, 02:42 PM
If you could answer the questions @Noelia Scotti and I asked, that would be helpful.
mulfycrowh , 08-11-2024, 04:06 PM
I tried what @Noelia Scotti suggested and doesn't solve the issue.
Noelia Scotti , 08-12-2024, 01:10 PM
@mulfycrowh Please provide screenshots that clearly display the component’s properties and parameters. Additionally, include a screenshot of the used update options. Perhaps we can discover something on the images.
QDrives , 08-12-2024, 08:53 PM
Does it select all the components if you do the "find similar objects"?
mulfycrowh , 08-14-2024, 10:11 PM
About all the components involved in the project should be documented with 4 parameters: Height, Length, Width and Orientation on Tape. I added these parameters when not present. Orientation on Tape has no unit: 0, 90, 180 or 270. Dimensions are in mm or inch. Again, for this new project, the update doesn't affect all the components. Some of them remain without the parameter Orientation on Tape: this is the fastest way for me to check that something went wrong, because previously no component had this parameter.
mulfycrowh , 08-14-2024, 10:32 PM
Before any update, if I select one component that I know it won't be updated and then apply Tools > Update Selected from Libraries, AD shares the warning "No changes were made..." what is wrong because we see Orientation on Tape in the SCH library and not in the component.

Can you show me the window that appears when you press the Advanced button?
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 10:44 AM
Noelia Scotti , 08-15-2024, 12:21 PM
It seems fine. Perhaps you need to report the bug. I have never seen this bug before but I always use dblib libraries, so the parameters are saved on the mdb files not on the schlib files.
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:01 PM
I found something interesting. When you take a look at the second tab after initiating Update from Libraries, you see you have components with Library Name not found and they are the ones that are not updated.
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:02 PM
If you copy the name of the component and then search it in the SCH library, you find it. So?
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:02 PM
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:02 PM
That's the case for Q25.
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:07 PM
The panel Properties for Q25 show that the component has a well documented source.
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:24 PM
I think having found the issue. As you can see, in the properties panel, the source is the wrong one. It is weird but I think it is bound to a previous version. The correct name is Concert Music Stand - Backplane Board.SchLib.
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 02:24 PM
If I fix that with the same ID, it updates very well.
Noelia Scotti , 08-15-2024, 03:10 PM
Ok, I'm happy that you can solve the issue. For the next time, always check the library name of each component on the Parameter Table Editor. Sorry I didnt tell you before.
mulfycrowh , 08-15-2024, 03:19 PM
I have a question. Does changing the SCH library name for a component affect the variants already defined?
Noelia Scotti , 08-15-2024, 03:26 PM
Sorry, I'm not sure. Make a test and check if the Variants configuration is affected.
QDrives , 08-15-2024, 07:50 PM
I would say only if you have selected alternative parts and the library (name) also changed.
QDrives , 08-15-2024, 07:53 PM
You do not have to be sorry. I did ask @mulfycrowh about it in my first comment.
QDrives , 08-15-2024, 07:53 PM
You can use the parameter manager to change the source in bulk.
