Why the 33rd pin: EP?

I'm taking the Altium Essentials course and the pin-out in the data sheet shows 32 pins, but the instructor added a 33rd pin and named it EP.Can someone explain this?

EP - exposed pad, the pad at the bottom of the chip

Interesting. I searched the data sheet for 'exposed pad' and the only references were in the Pin name table. Is the EP the dashed square within the chip part diagram?
