Microscope

Credo_electronics , 12-22-2025, 07:13 PM
Hi, I'm looking for a microscope for my lab. I need to solder without problems smd 01005.
Scope i found: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/AmScope-3-5X-180X-Trinocular-Stereo-Microscope/dp/B0773WLVQ9?utm_source=chatgpt.com
camera: https://eu.amscope.com/products/5mp-usb-3-0-color-cmos-c-mount-microscope-camera-with-reduction-lens?utm_source=chatgpt.com
led: https://allegro.pl/kategoria/sprzet-optyczny-mikroskopy-124892?string=lampa%20o%C5%9Bwietlacz%20mikroskopu%20regulacja (some of these)

Would you recommend sth?

You can also have a look here: https://eleshop.eu/sm-4tp-stereomicroscope-black-edition-set.html

This has actually x45 which is way to low for smd 01005
QDrives , 12-22-2025, 11:14 PM
Is it? I rarely zoom in more than the 7x that is the lowest.
And you can get other lenses too.
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 06:54 AM
Smd 01005 is like 0,2mmx0,4mm. 7x that is 1,4x2,8mm- it’s still very small imo
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 06:55 AM
And i want to have a real good comfort soldering
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 06:56 AM
45 - 0,9x1,8mm is still pretty small
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 06:58 AM
And smd pad of such is even smaller
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 06:59 AM
I think that having comfort (for me) requires at least a good 90x
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 06:59 AM
And also working space is crucial

be careful with zoom - often zoom for external camera is not as big as they say for the microscope, because microscope includes ocular lens (eyepiece) magnification
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 02:30 PM
So which microscope would you recommend if i want to have a real good view of 01005 and maybe further? I think this micro from my link should be very good but i don’t know if im overpaying
Credo_electronics , 12-23-2025, 02:30 PM
And what camera to record or photo it
Robert Feranec , 12-23-2025, 03:10 PM
I don't know. There are so many microscopes, some are not good. I would probably try to search for reviews, but probably that is what you did. I only suggested to be carful about the magnification because when I was buying a regular microscope, they pointed out, you will loose the magnification of eyepiece if you use camera ... and often the cameras do not provide as much magnification as the eyepiece (or they offer digital magnification but I am not sure about picture quality). At that time I bought BRESSER microscope and I am super happy with it - but as I said, that was not for soldering

for soldering I use andonstar - the stand could be better, but otherwise not bad

Thank you for the answear

Nothing beats a stereo microscope.
AmScope are known, but higher price. Although I see that is not as much as it used to be.

I have this exact one (in white) and can absolutely recommend it, i‘ve soldered 0402 (imperial) at nowhere near max zoom, so i guess you should be fine. There are also other lenses for it i think, and you could remove the included barlow lens (which halves the magnification). But without it, the microscope has to be much closer to the workpiece, so to solder comfortably, you would habe to put sonething under your pcb to raise it up

I would definitely go for an optical stereo microscope (or trinocular if you want to add a camera later), especially for components this small

I tried to take a photo through the eyepieces (as my camera on the top port has a little smaller viewport). First image is full zoom with the 0.5 barlow lens, the second is full zoom without it. Those are 0402 capacitors (1.0x0.5mm).
